Poster Abstract
The isolation and structure elucidation of two bioflavonoids from the leaves of Ochna Mauritania is described. The compounds were isolated and purified using a combination of flash and preparative layer chromatography. The structures of the compounds were rather proton deficient giving rise to only few peaks in the heteronuclear 2D spectra. Moreover the repeated ring structure gave rise to very closely spaced 13C peaks limiting the usefulness of traditional 2D experiments. Advanced Computer Assisted Structure Elucidation with one and two-dimensional, normal and band-selective NMR experiments together with high-resolution mass spectrometry were used to elucidate the structures.
