Poster Information
Abstract: Both types of viruses infect pulmonary cells causing cells to die.
Both infections trigger inflammatory responses up to cytokine storm.
Influenza viruses interact with sialic acid residues of target cells surface glycans, keeping the protective roles of ACE2 intact.
SARS-CoV-2 interacts with ACE2 of the target cells, abolishing its important protective signaling.
Summary: While both SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza viruses cause lower respiratory tract infections, they share 2 aspects of the pathophysiology, but differ in another aspect that might make covid-19 more dangerous.References: Covid-19; the current medical strategies
