Abstract: Forensic Odontology is an integral part of identification of suspects during forensic criminology and it combines aspects of dentistry, law and detection. Forensic odontology deals with identification of race, sex and age in incidence of mass disasters and unidentifiable individuals. The role of bite mark in the identification of a suspect involved in assault is an important part of forensic odontology. Additionally, the role of dentists as an expert witness has tremendous potential in medico-legal cases. Maintenance of dental records by the practising dentists is a pre requisite and mandatory to aid in forensic odontological investigations. This poster provides an overview of bite mark analysis as a tool and highlights the importance of maintenance of dental records.
