Abstract: A protease is an enzyme that helps proteolysis: protein catabolism by hydrolysis of pepde bonds. The nave Bacillus licheniformis protease belongs to the serine endopepdase sublisin family, which breaks the pepde bond non-specifically under alkaline condions. The enzyme is acve in aqueous soluons and in some organic solvents such as dry octane. The protease is inacvated by serine acve-site inhibitors, such as phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) and diisopropylfluorophosphate.Summary: A protease is an enzyme that helps proteolysis: protein catabolism by hydrolysis of peptide bonds.
