Abstract: Steroidal compounds are solid alcohols that shoulder very important biological functions in the cells, which are widely distributed in plants, animals and fungi.

The types of nature organic compounds found in plants are termed plant steroids. They exist and play important roles in the whole biological processes of plants, including growth, development and cell division etc. Some plant steroids are also can be used for human beings to decreases the amount of cholesterol in the bloodstream, such as phytosterols.
Summary: Steroids are important organic compounds based on the fundamental saturated tetracyclic hydrocarbon: 1,2-cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene (gonane or sterane). These four cycloalkane rings consist of 17 carbon atoms that are bound together, which include three cyclohexane rings and one cyclopentane ring. When varying the functional groups attached to the basic steroid rings or changing the number of double bonds in the carbon rings, we can get a lot different steroids.References: abuse »
