Poster Information
Abstract: Background
Out-of-hours CT scan reporting is completed by the on-call radiology registrars.
Consultants then review and release the final reports for these CT scans with an addendum.
Local recommendations state that all out-of-hours registrar-released reports should have an addendum report before 13:00
This study compares the time taken for consultants to release addendum reports for CT scans performed between midnight and 8AM before and after creating a duty radiologist post.

Methods
All CT scans that were registrar-reported between midnight and 8AM in March 2016 and November 2017 (after creating a duty radiologist post) were retrospectively reviewed.
Data included times of the scan, the registrar report, and the addendum report. Times of addendum report were stratified as before 11:00, between 11:00 and 13:00, between 13:00 and 17:00, and after 17:00

Results
A total of 129 and 141 out-of-hours CT scans were performed in March 2016 and November 2017, respectively. This represented an increase of 20.8%.
In March 2016, 9.3% of addendum reports were released after 13:00, and 74% were released before 11:00
In November 2017, 10.6% of addendum reports were released after 13:00, and 82% were released before 11:00
No significant difference was observed comparing the two periods in terms of the proportion of CT scans with addendum reports released before 13:00 (p-value: 0.840)

Conclusions
There was a 20% rise in the number of CT scans performed in November 2017 compared to March 2016. Creating a duty radiologist post appears to be attributed to controlling the percentage of CT scans that received addendum reports before 13:00 at around 90%.
Summary: A duty radiologist post was created and the time of addendum report release for out-of-hours CT scans before and after creating the post were assessed.Report abuse »
